Changing the Landscape of Memory Care Forever...

Yesterday Allan, Susie & Nick and I celebrated Helen's 99th birthday at English Rose Suites. It was a wonderful event!
Helen's dementia has meant that most times when we visit she does not recognize us (except for Allan) and sometimes that she has little or no interest in engaging. When we arrived yesterday, we were prepared for that reality and initially it appeared it would be that kind of day. But once we moved into the dining room by ourselves and presented her with her birthday cupcake, she morphed into the "party girl". She laughed, talked almost non-stop and glimmers of her old self and ability to remember appeared.
She asked Susie and Nick about their "long drive" and clearly knew that they did not live in the Twin Cities and that they lived "south". When told they lived in Northfield, she responded with "I hear that is a charming town and I'm happy you live there."
When handed a card to open, she asked who it was from. Allan jokingly said "maybe the president" to which she countered with "No. I'm not 100". She talked very positively about her life at English Rose and when asked about what she has done to live to be 99, she responded "I bark!" and then laughed uproariously! (She was looking at the card with the dog when she said it.)
The highlight for me?
When I said goodbye, she invited me to stay overnight and assured me that they had plenty of room!
I asked for a rain check.
You are doing most important work and are truly making a difference.
Yesterday, when I played the harp for the residents, it was a magical experience! You have the best residents...each one is absolutely amazing! I want to adopt each one...I am so privileged to get to play in your houses.
And your staff--they are the BEST! I know you work hard training them and it shows. I play in many different health care facilities and I have never seen health care caregivers pay such special attention to every detail. From serving the residents a wonderful peach dessert to giving them little glasses of tea...all saying "I care about you" and they genuinely do care. It is awesome to see this love in action for this very special population.
The affectionate care at English Rose Suites was exceptional. I trusted all the staff with the care of my father. They handpick their employees, and it shows.

I was told when Mom moved to English Rose that her home now...was also our home...you were not kidding!! We experience "home" everytime we drop by.

When I went over on Sunday she was peacefully looking at a cookbook. How wonderful it was that you all took the time to understand who she was before this disease. Knowing that she was once a gourmet cook and then taking the time to give her a cookbook...wow! When I sat down next to her she looked up and said, "it's so nice to be home". It brought tears to my eyes...
Waiting on your waiting list was well worth it. Never did we think Mother would have the love, personal care and attention at any place other than her own home. Moving her to English Rose and watching her thrive has been our greatest gift to her, thank you.
The kindness given to our mother makes us all feel like she is living with her extended family.
Mother now goes to the library often, we love knowing that her needs are met daily based on things she loved to do as a young woman, mother and an adult. Thank you, English Rose Suites, for giving her life meaning.
I am so grateful to all of you for working so hard to make my family feel so good about where our mother is living. I can't thank you enough for the care, effort and warmth you show to all the residents and their families.
Thank you English Rose Suites and all the Braemar Hills Caregivers! Mom is fantastic!
We are forever indebted to you and all the wonderful people at English Rose Suites...
Mom is happier than she has been in years...
our thanks to everyone at English Rose Suites.
Thank you for all you did for my family and
me during mom's final days. You made a very heartbreaking experience calm, peaceful and
even beautiful. I can't tell you how much your
support and words of comfort helped me through
the very difficult time.
