Lavender: It Really Does Work!
When writing, I generally try to blog from the perspective of English Rose Suites and b♦home Home Care as a whole, so I am trying something different with this one! This will be one of the first blogs that has more of my narrative in it.
I started working at English Rose Suites and b♦home Home Care in March 2017.The use of essential oils has always intrigued me but I never had the information or guidance on different oils, their benefits, and how to use them.
During my first couple of weeks at English Rose Suites and b♦home Home Care, I spent a good portion of my time getting to know the leadership team, as well as shadowing the caregiving staff in the homes. I was able to firsthand see essential oils in use: lemon before lunch and dinner, lavender in the afternoon and before bed, etc.
I learned about the uses of different oils with Katie Rinehimer, our Quality of Life Director. One of the things that stuck out to me the most was learning about the first part of the Lavender Essential Oil Study that was done with Health Partners, and that it was proven that participants received more REM sleep with Lavender essential oil.
About a month in working here, I stopped at Whole Foods on my way home from work to do a little grocery shopping. I wandered down the health and beauty aisle and spotted their selection of essential oils. I decided I was going to give the lavender a shot. I purchased a small bottle of lavender, paying no more than $15.
What drew me towards lavender essential oil was the claim that it helped you sleep at night. I wouldn’t say I have insomnia by any means, but I sometimes struggle falling asleep. Right before bed is the time of day my mind wanders and thinks of everything other than sleep itself. So the idea that something natural could be calming and relaxing before bedtime intrigued me. I’ve always been a natural born “scaredy-cat” and often worry about every little thing. So if I hear anything in the middle of the night it startles me and I have a hard time getting back to sleep.
I decided to give the lavender a try – I had high hopes in it working. Let me just spoil it for you – I am obsessed and stand behind essential oils 100%. It really does work! It’s a game changer. I slept so much better – waking up less, falling asleep faster, and really felling so much more well-rested in the morning. I ended up using that bottle up after a few months or so. It took me a while to make it back to purchase it again but the time I didn’t use it, I noticed the difference again. I had a harder time falling asleep and staying asleep.
Recently, I bought a new bottle of the lavender and after the first night using it again I questioned why I didn’t go buy it sooner. I really missed the amazing sleep!
I even convinced my mom to try it and she noticed the difference and uses it too now. I find it really does calm you down and relaxes you. If you are just thinking about maybe trying it, seriously you need to give it a try! It’s amazing. If nothing else, you might enjoy the aroma!
