A Day on Lake Johanna
Is there any better way to spend a warm, Minnesota summer day than relaxing on the lake on a pontoon? If there is, let us know! 😊 Every summer our Quality of Life Director, Katie Rinehimer, plans a summer outing for our residents to the lake for a good ole’ fashioned boat ride.
Some years we have rented a pontoon ourselves and toured Lake Minnetonka. Other years we have signed up with “Fishing for Fun,” a non-profit with a mission to create memories and camaraderie by providing free fishing and boating trips for seniors, care centers, veterans and youth two times a year.
This year we decided to take advantage of “Fishing for Fun” and booked our trip. Everything is provided by “Fishing for Fun” including life jackets, and the best part of all, a boat captain who will drive the boat.
Our residents enjoyed a nice hour plus boat ride around Lake Johanna in Arden Hills. The boat rides can last from an hour to an hour and half depending on the needs of the group. Everything is so very flexible, which is great for our residents.
“The residents absolutely loved being out on the pontoon and enjoyed the fresh air,” said Katie Rinehimer, Quality of Life Director.
What was also truly inspiring was listening to the residents reminisces about how they spent their summers growing up as well as happy memories of younger years. The many smiles and laughs of our residents was priceless.
In addition, the weather could not have been any more perfect. Nothing is better than sunshine on your face and wind in your hair. We are already looking forward to the next time we can get our residents out on the water.
