There is an excellent opportunity coming up on March 5th, 2021, from 2-4 pm CST / 1-3 pm MT to learn more about Lewy Body Dementia. The Colorado University Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center, an LBDA Research Center of Excellence, in conjunction with the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA), is hosting a public online viewing of the film SPARK: Robin Williams and his Battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
The two-hour event will start with a brief presentation on Lewy body dementia (LBD) by Dr. Samantha Holden, Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center. This will be followed by the 45-minute documentary film, which “delves deeper into the disease, its biology, myriad of clinical symptoms and its impact on both the person with LBD and the primary caregiver.” After viewing the film together, there will be a panel discussion around the film’s content, main themes and messages, which will conclude with a 10-15 minute Q and A session. Panelists include Dr. Samantha Holden, Dr. Evan Plys, who is a Senior Instructor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in geropsychology (mental health and aging) and Dr. Karina Drake who is a Senior Instructor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and a practicing geriatric psychiatrist.
LBDA helped to create this educational film in order to share more about Robin Williams and his battle with undiagnosed Lewy body dementia (LBD) and to “promote community and professional awareness and education to those affected by Lewy body dementia.”
