At English Rose, some caregivers become lifelong team members, while others use their experience to explore a caregiver career path and launch meaningful professions in healthcare. For Skyler Klostreich, joining English Rose as a recent college graduate was a life-changing decision.
Why Caregiving Is a Great Place to Start
Skyler, who earned her degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Concordia College, joined English Rose in 2022 to gain valuable training and experience in healthcare.
“I wanted a career where I could make a positive impact. English Rose gave me real-world exposure and helped confirm my passion for working one-on-one with people.”
Skyler found inspiration in English Rose’s knowledgeable and compassionate nurses and appreciated how real-world patient care shaped her career goals.
Supporting Students and Growing Careers
Skyler’s journey took a decisive turn when she enrolled in the LPN program at St. Catherine University. While studying, she continued working at English Rose thanks to a flexible schedule that prioritized her education.
“English Rose is perfect for students. The team works with your academic schedule so you can advance your education and career without stress.”
Progressing From Caregiver to Team Coordinator
With mentorship from the leadership team, Skyler advanced to Team Coordinator at Oak Ridge, English Rose’s new Assisted Living home in Minnetonka.
“The leadership at English Rose genuinely cares about your goals. They’re accessible and eager to help caregivers obtain certification and step into leadership roles, facilitating career advancement and training in the caregiving profession.”
In her Coordinator role, Skyler built vital skills beyond classroom learning—like administration, team leadership, and coaching.
Becoming a Home Manager and Nursing Leader
Skyler’s growth in long-term care didn’t stop there. As she settled into leadership as a Team Coordinator, she was promoted to Home Manager. As Home Manager, she was responsible for everything that keeps an English Rose home thriving:
● Resident well-being
● Caregiver training
● Family relationships
● Home environment and safety
“English Rose leaders don’t manage from behind a desk; they understand the importance of CNA roles and the insight they bring to caregiving. They lead by doing—and want you to follow in their footsteps.”
Landing Her First Role as a Nurse
For many, managing an English Rose home is a fulfilling lifelong role, embodying the essence of compassion and caregiving. For Skyler, her heart was set on direct care and long-term care—so English Rose offered her a CNA nursing position upon graduation.
“My career at English Rose has been amazing. I never imagined my first job out of college would be this defining.”
Skyler credits the training, experience, certification opportunities, mentorship, and supportive culture in long-term care for her rapid career advancement:
● Low caregiver-to-resident ratios (1:3)
● Flexible scheduling for students
● A leadership team that started as caregivers themselves
Next Steps: Always Growing
Is English Rose the end of Skyler’s journey? Not at all! Now, she’s taking classes to become a Physician Assistant—and English Rose is still cheering her on.
“Do we expect Skyler to stay at English Rose forever? Never say never!” jokes Kathy Erickson, Scheduler and longtime team mentor.
If you’re looking for a healthcare career where your growth, goals, and well-being matter, English Rose is the place to start and thrive.
